- This directive spells out what US Army System Administrators should do to protect Mobile Computing Devices (MPP), including basic physical security like “providing users with a cable lock”.

The Latest Computer Theft and Data Breach Statistics
The latest reports indicate computer theft and data breaches are on the rise
- In 2005 through 2007, government related data breaches: 41% occurred in State Government, 35% in Federal Government, 19% City/County Government, and 4% Other.
- In 2007, 163 million records were breached, a 250% increase over 2006 (46 million).
- From 2005 to 2007, stolen or lost computers was the number one reason for data breaches accounting for 31% of all breached records; followed by hackers at 22%.
- In 2007, 32% of all data breaches occurred in business, 29% in Government, 26% in Education, and 13% in Healthcare.
